Sadly the kitchen has stayed pretty much the same since the house was built in 1996. The appliances were all replaced since then but not upgraded. I never thought the kitchen was all that bad. There are a ton of cabinets, the layout is functional, and it's very bright. Now that I remodeled it, there is such a HUGE difference. It just needed a little update.
The 18 year old kitchen. |
First the new appliances were installed. Went from blah white to LG stainless steel everything. I especially LOVE the fridge.
The cabinet doors were removed so they could be painted at an offsite facility. The company I hired uses a similar process to painting cars. Durability is key!
Cabinet doors are off to the factory for painting! |
The granite counter tops were installed next. I covered the cabinets to keep any debris from getting on my stuff. It only took a week from taking measurements to the installation. The installation took about 2 1/2 hours. Pretty quick!
What a difference granite makes |
The cabinet boxes were all sanded and hand painted. I got new hinges, knobs, and put pulls on the drawers. Also had trim added to the island and at the end of the cabinet under the window. It took an hour for them to remove the doors, 3 days to paint the doors, then 4 days to complete installation (sanding, priming, painting, adding trim, patching holes from old hinges, attaching doors and knobs/pulls).
White subway tile was used for the backsplash. The walls will be painted in a couple weeks then it'll be all done!
I'm very pleased with my very first remodeling project!!! Now I need to figure out the wall color. Cream? Maybe a brownish blue? Off white?
